Purchase VS Lease

When it comes to buying or leasing a car the options can be confusing. To help you make an informed decision we have provided the information below. We hope you find it informative and useful.

 

When you buy the new or used car you pay for the entire cost of the vehicle. When you lease the new or used car, you pay for only a portion of the vehicle’s cost, which is the part you use during the time you are driving it.

WHO OWNS IT

Purchasing

Whether you pay for the car with cash, or finance it and make monthly payments, either way it’s yours. Of course, if you’re financing it, you’ll have to meet the obligations the lender requires, like a certain down payment amount and timely monthly payments. If you don’t, they have the right to repossess it.
Leasing

You do not own the car when you lease. You’re paying for the use of the vehicle, but the finance institution that you leased it through actually owns it. This is usually why you pay less per month in a lease than if you were to buy the car.

UP-FRONT COSTS

Purchasing

If you’re financing it, the bank will probably request a down payment. You can also trade-in another vehicle and use any equity towards your down payment. The amount of the down payment is usually based on the lender’s requirements and your credit score.
Leasing

Leases often do not require any type of a down payment. All you usually have to pay is the first month’s payment, a security deposit, the acquisition fee and other fees and taxes. But, as with a purchase, if you want to lower your monthly payments you can always pay more upfront.

FUTURE VALUE

Purchasing

Your vehicle will be worth whatever you can sell it for in the future and that depends on how well you maintain it. (Be smart and protect your investment with regular scheduled maintenance by a factory-authorized facility!)
Leasing

In most leases you don’t end up owning it so you don’t end up selling it. That’s the financial institution’s job. Although you may have mileage limits and wear and tear guidelines that, if you exceed them, could cost you extra money when you turn your vehicle back in.

END OF PAYMENTS

Purchasing

Once you’ve paid off what you owe on your contract, that’s it. Your vehicle is 100% yours. The lending institution will send you a Lien Release as proof that the vehicle is completely paid off and all yours.
Leasing

Most people return the vehicle at the end of the lease term. But some like to purchase it during their lease or at the end. Others like to trade it in before their lease is over. Just ask us about these different options before signing any paperwork and we’ll make sure you have your lease set up the way you want it.

We actually bought from the Ford store but Rich from the Kia store helped get our process finished up. He came over to help with the financial piece so we could get our toddler home as it was getting very late and we had been there for several hours. Everything was explained quickly yet thoroughly and I felt he was very honest with us about it all. Really appreciate this guy.

Found a car online, called the dealership to set up for a test drive. When I arrived the car was already sitting up front waiting for me! I got to get in a do a test drive it right away. I am so thankful for the service I have received at Cronin. I had a negative experience with a used car that I purchased from the dealership. When I spoke with the general manager, Eric Koren, about the situation he was very understanding and offered some solutions. Eric introduced me to sales associate, Mark Grome. Mark was extraordinary. Richard U. and Greg made my visit wonderful. They went above and beyond the call of duty to get financing for me as mine is not excellent. They spent an hour submitting inquiries and they got the job done. And then to top it off, a few days later, Rich gets a belated reply on financing which cut my APR by almost 33% and will save me north of 3K in total payoff. Not sure what more to say. They didn't hassle me and I felt very much in control of the buying experience.

Went in with little hopes to be able to finance a Kia Optima after my car was recently totaled out from a wreck. Mark Grome was beyond incredible in the process of all of this. I told him what I wanted to pay, and he worked it out. No pressure at all. I would definitely recommend Cronin Kia of Harrison to anyone interested in buying a AMAZING car with no hassle! I was in and out in less than two hours and got to drive home a gorgeous 2015 optima.

I live 55 miles away from Cronin Kia and went out there to view a car I saw online. It happened to be a really great deal, otherwise I wouldn't have drove all that way. We arrived and were almost immediately greeted by Mike Monroe. As any car buyer should be, I was skeptical at first but within the first few minutes of talking to him, I knew this would be a no-pressure experience. I wasn't looking to purchase same-day, but I'm absolutely thrilled that I did. Mike took a lot of time helping me through the buying process, as this was my first time purchasing a new vehicle. Mike and the sales manager, who's name I neglect to remember at this time and the finance guy Tony, got my monthly payments within dollars of where I asked them to be. There was very little back and forth; I asked and received. Finance is normally a huge pain, but I was in and out of Tony's office in just a few minutes. After that, I was good to go. Mike stood with us in the cold as we loaded up and gave me a quick rundown of the basics on the car. He was such a pleasure to work with and I cannot stress how much he made this buying experience feel hassle free. So, to Mike, the MVP, thank you for getting me in a new car that I love and for adding some much needed humor to the car buying experience.

My Fiance and I went into the dealership "just looking," for a vehicle to suit our growing family. We were greeted by Mike Monroe. I have to say, this was the most pleasant experience that I have had at a dealership. Mike worked with us on financing our vehicle and was there to answer any questions that we had throughout the process. After the purchase of our new vehicle, we found a crack in our driver side mirror. Though the car had been driven off the lot, Mike allowed us to bring the vehicle back, and put a new mirror on for us at no cost. Mike's level of customer service made us a life long customer.
